The official site of Minor League Baseball has a great story today about the San Francisco based candy company who produced the Pacific Coast League Zeenut Baseball cards between 1911-38.
Over the years the Zeenut sets included Joe Dimaggio, Jim Thorpe and even troubled actor Roscoe Arbuckle. Zeenut was the first baseball card set to include a black athlete on their cards, Oakland Oaks pitcher Jimmy Claxton. In 2005, a Jimmy Claxton Zeenut card sold at a Sotheby's auction for $7,200.
