2010 Bowman Stephen Strasburg Red Autograph 1/1

The hype machine that is Stephen Strasburg keeps rolling along. Sales of his 2010 Bowman Rookie Cards have been a shot in the arm to the hobby and his most desirable card to date is currently on eBay. The 1/1 un-autographed Superfractor that sold for $16,403.00 grabbed headlines. Now his 2010 Bowman Red Autograph Parallel 1/1 might break the bank.
The price tag for the rare 2010 Bowman Stephen Strasburg cards are staggering for many reasons.  It's well known that the popularity and overall sales of trading cards are down significantly from the levels of the mid-1990's. Every once in awhile I'll post a list of trading cards that sold for over $1,000.00 on eBay. Everyday there would be more cards to add to the list. It is somewhat rare for a card to sell for over $10,000.00 though. Those auctions are usually for vintage cards featuring a Hall-of-Famer or a high end autographed/game-used card of a modern day icon like, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, or Michael Jordan. So far, Strasburg has lived up to the hype and anyone involved in the trading card business has got to hope he keeps pitching great.

  3. the guy with the $40,000 bid has zero feedback....red flags all over this auction....

  4. No doubt. The seller needs to pre-approve bidders or he will just end up with dead-beat bidders. Hopefully eBay steps in and helps the guy out like they did with the Un-Autographed Superfractor that sold in May.

  5. $100 short of $1,000,000.00 right now? Is this bidding even for real now?

  6. Currently the high bidder does have 522 positive feedback transactions on eBay. The high bidder also has 3 bid retractions in the last 30 days.

My guess is that $1 Million is a joke. The seller of the card should have gotten on the phone with eBay and gotten it worked out for pre-approved bidders. We'll see how it all shakes out. Interesting.

  8. Very true. Looks like on the auction page - eBay finally got around to helping the seller out. Good to see.

Hopefully the $500,000 + price tag sticks & the seller can go on a nice vacation cause it must have been a battle the last few days dealing with all the fake bids.

  9. Ebay finally helped him out with making pre approved bidders. Only after being on the phone with ebay forever.
