Goldin Auctions will be offering the 1989 Pete Rose Banishment Document issued by the Office of the Commissioner of Baseball for sale in their Fall 2012 auction. The five page document has a letter of authenticity from Rose himself as well as PSA/DNA authentication. Minimum bid is $100,000 with the auction starting on October 10, 2012.
In addition to the Rose banishment documents, over 1,000 items will be sold in Goldin Auctions debut auction. Some of the guys associated with Goldin Auctions have been around the business for many years. Browse their company website for information and details about the upcoming auction. Other big items up for sale in the Fall 2012 Goldin Auction include: a 1934 NY Yankees Signed Baseball, a 1864 Abraham Lincoln Signed Civil War Document, and a 1995-96 Michael Jordan Game Worn Jersey. Goldin claims to have one of the lowest buyers premiums on the market at 10%. Meaning whatever you win the auction for, the buyer must pay an additional 10% on top of that price. Buyer's premiums are typical practice of all auction houses.
Will someone pony up over $100,000 to buy the Rose documents? That remains to be seen. They come from Pete Rose himself, in the LOA, Rose says these documents are his personal copy. Certainly the 5-page document is one of the most unique pieces in sports collectibles. It's signed by Rose, Rueven J. Katz (Rose's attorney), Baseball Commissioner A. Bartlett Giamatti and Deputy Commissioner Fay Vincent. Here is the link to the auction which starts 10/10/2012.
