2011-12 Upper Deck Exquisite Basketball

It's back! Ok, sure, it's still with the college uniforms. Nothing can be done about that. But Exquisite is the godfather of modern day basketball card sets. You had 03-04 with LeBron, 07-08 with Durant. Over the years this set has produced some of the most sought after basketball cards on the market. Exquisite returns in 11-12, with an added surprise, one Michael Jordan autograph per case. Also per case you'll get another 'graph of either Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, LeBron, or Bill Russell. That comes straight from the horses mouth.
Scheduled release date is October 16, 2012. 1 pack per box with 5 total autographs per box. Look for a huge price tag per box/case because of the 1 per case Jordan autographs. The checklist should be eerily similar to the Fleer Retro set that came out just one month prior. Regardless of the NCAA uniforms, this set will be hot. Who knows what will happen on the secondary market. Fleer Retro boxes exploded upward to $500 a box (pre sale was $200).  Exquisite could be too high a gamble, but the basketball card market is strong worldwide and sometimes people underestimate that many of these cards go overseas. Baseball and especially Football cards are primarily only collected in the United States. Basketball is a global game with a huge following in many different countries.

2012 Upper Deck Sp Authentic Golf

For the first time since 2005, Upper Deck will release 2012 Sp Authentic Golf featuring some of the biggest names on the PGA and LPGA tour. 20 packs per box with 4 cards per pack and 3 autographs per box. Because Upper Deck hasn't released a golf set since 2005, players who have never had a card in Upper Deck are eligible to have a rookie autograph card. Some of those rookie auto's include: Stockton, CA native Ricky Barnes, Dustin Johnson, Morgan Pressel and more.  Look for at least one autograph rookie card #/699 or less per box.
Some of the best sellers from the set will be some of the LPGA cards. Don't sleep on the female market. Players like Pressel, Brittany Lincicome, Natalie Gulbis and others have a huge following of fans who will be willing to pay good money for an autograph. Other big cards include, obviously, anything with a Tiger Woods autograph, and there are quite a few available in the set. The Immortal inks, serial numbered #/10, include names like Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Woods and Ernie Els. Those will sell for a lot.

There are some cards in 2012 Sp Authentic Golf for you even if you aren't a fan of golf. 30 players from other sports have base cards and several have autographs available in the set. The Parade of Stars base cards include: Michael Jordan, Aaron Rodgers, Bo Jackson, Wayne Gretzky and more. The Parade of Stars cards feature the athletes pictured playing golf.

Jean Segura 2012 Topps Finest Redemption #5

Milwaukee Brewers prospect Jean Segura rounds out the 2012 Topps Finest Baseball autograph redemption cards. Segura was traded to the Brewers from the Angels during 2012. The Finest autograph will feature Segura in a Brewers uniform and all collectors holding redemption card #5 from 2012 Finest can redeem it for the Segura autograph.
The five total redemption cards are #1 Starling Marté, #2 Brett Jackson, #3 Mike Trout, #4 Josh Rutledge and finally #5 Segura. Collectors will often gamble with these cards as it is not known what the five redemption cards will be when the product goes live. Topps took about a month and a half to release all the names for the redemption program. The release date of Finest was August 8, 2012 and they made the final announcement of Segura on September 21, 2012.

1989 Pete Rose Banishment Document Up For Sale

Goldin Auctions will be offering the 1989 Pete Rose Banishment Document issued by the Office of the Commissioner of Baseball for sale in their Fall 2012 auction. The five page document has a letter of authenticity from Rose himself as well as PSA/DNA authentication. Minimum bid is $100,000 with the auction starting on October 10, 2012.

In addition to the Rose banishment documents, over 1,000 items will be sold in Goldin Auctions debut auction.  Some of the guys associated with Goldin Auctions have been around the business for many years. Browse their company website for information and details about the upcoming auction. Other big items up for sale in the Fall 2012 Goldin Auction include: a 1934 NY Yankees Signed Baseball, a 1864 Abraham Lincoln Signed Civil War Document, and a 1995-96 Michael Jordan Game Worn Jersey. Goldin claims to have one of the lowest buyers premiums on the market at 10%. Meaning whatever you win the auction for, the buyer must pay an additional 10% on top of that price. Buyer's premiums are typical practice of all auction houses.

Will someone pony up over $100,000 to buy the Rose documents? That remains to be seen.  They come from Pete Rose himself, in the LOA, Rose says these documents are his personal copy. Certainly the 5-page document is one of the most unique pieces in sports collectibles. It's signed by Rose, Rueven J. Katz (Rose's attorney), Baseball Commissioner A. Bartlett Giamatti and Deputy Commissioner Fay Vincent. Here is the link to the auction which starts 10/10/2012.

Fleer Retro PMGs Light Up eBay's Most Watched

Six of the most watched sports cards on eBay from September 12, 2012 - September 18, 2012 were from the 2011-12 Fleer Retro Basketball set and four of them were the Precious Metal Gems (PMG) insert cards. A total of five Michael Jordan cards and one Magic Johnson PMG Green ranked in the top 10.

Collectors have flocked to buy 11-12 Upper Deck Retro Basketball pushing box prices north of $500 just weeks after release (originally solicited for $200 a box). The PMG's are not the only thing collectors are after, the rare Jambalaya cards are really rare, less then 25 for each player and a Jordan sold for $1,511.00 during the week. That might end up being a good deal, only time will tell but I'd scrounge up some money to pay at least $1,000 for one of those right now.
Besides the six Fleer Retro cards, a PSA 10 Fleer Michael Jordan Rookie ranked number two on the top ten and sold for a little over $8,000.00.  A rare 1/1 Mike Trout rookie autograph from 2012 Tier One was the most watched baseball card checking in at number five on the list. Check out Sports Card Radio for a weekly top 10 list of eBay's most watched cards.

2012 Heritage Minor League Baseball

2012 Heritage Minor League Baseball is a set that can be overlooked.  It's all minor league players so that eliminates a segment of the market that only cares about Jeter, Pujols and Posey. The autographs in 2012 Heritage Minor League are all sticker applied which hampers what their value could become. But it's a great set for people who love to see the young prospect kids on cardboard and also, above all else, it's great for autograph hounds at spring training, the Arizona Fall League and the minor league parks themselves to get in person autographs of the prospects in the set.
Some of the key players in the set include: Billy Hamilton, Dylan Bundy, Manny Machado and many more. A total of 225 in the base + sp set (200 base cards 25 sp cards). Hobby box breakdown is 24 Packs Per Box and 9 cards per pack. 2 autograph cards and 1 relic per hobby box. Personally, I wouldn't open a box of this but will be in the market for single cards of Hamilton, Michael Choice, A.J. Kirby Jones, A.J. Cole and several other players that I have seen in person.

Much like the regular version of 2012 Heritage Baseball, the set includes 25 color swap variations of cards in the base set. Check this guide for pictures of the cards and how to determine if you have a Heritage Sp Card.

2012 Panini Cooperstown Baseball looks like a winner. Sure, there will be no logos, but don't let the lack of a license sway you away from these cards.  Panini got a ton of on-card autographs in this set of past legends. Some of them include: Yogi Berra #/99, Stan Musial #/50, Nolan Ryan #/75, Vin Scully #/100 and many more. These are all on-card! There are some sticker autographs in the Cooperstown Signatures (1 Per Box) set but they are of players who have deceased.

2012/13 Panini Prestige Basketball

12-13 Panini Prestige Basketball releases September 14, 2012 and it's stacked and packed with a double rookie class featuring Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis, Austin Rivers, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and many more. 100 total rookie cards highlight the Prestige Basketball set and collectors typically enjoy this low-mid end product from Panini.
There are some things to be excited about Prestige other then the double rookie class that was forced by the NBA lockout of 2011.  The Old School autograph cards might be interesting, but will be a difficult pull as they are numbered to #/99 or less. Some interesting former players in the Old School autograph set include: Vlade Divac, Detlef Schrempf, John Stockton and many more. Some of these guys don't have a lot of autograph cards on the market.

A Prestige Basketball hobby box breaks down to 24 Packs Per Box, 8 Cards Per pack with 3 Autograph Cards, 1 Memorabilia Card and a total of 24 Rookie Cards per box. Base set equals 150 total cards with  100 rookie cards. Be sure to check out Sports Card Radio for the full preview and checklist of the set.

Free Precious Metal Gems Price Guide

Looking for prices for the 2011-12 Upper Deck Fleer Retro Basketball Precious Metal Gems (PMG)? On Sports Card Radio they will have an updated weekly price guide for all things 11-12 Precious Metal Gems. Some of the early sales have been huge for the big players like Michael Jordan, LeBron James and Magic Johnson. Some collectors may be turned off by the college uniforms and the fact that the Red PMG's are serial numbered to #/150 instead of the traditional #/90 (the first 10 in the print run from back in the day featured the green border giving the red's 90 total copies).
Precious Metal Gems were made popular in the mid-1990's from the Fleer Metal Universe sets. Those cards were so hard to get back then from those mass produced products. The new PMG's in 11-12 Fleer Retro Basketball may not ever reach the staggering prices the old ones do, but the market is very strong for these cards that feature no autograph or game used piece.
